Track & Field Competes at the 2020 Indoor GLIAC Championships, David Mitter Sets a New School Record

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2020 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 29 and Sunday, March 1 in Allendale, Mich. at the meet that was hosted by Grand Valley State University.

The competition ended with the men's team earning a total of 10 points, which is a decrease from last year's total but an improvement over the previous two season's results at the Indoor GLIAC Championships. The women's team scored 11 points, marking the highest total for the program since the 2013 season.

The Lakers saw a number of strong performances in the two-day competition which included student-athletes Riley Collins, Elizabeth Setsuda, David Mitter and Roger Willford. Mitter's 3000 meter race was the highlight of the Lakers competition as the junior set a new school record in the distance. 

Setsuda finished in seventh place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.91 to earn the Lakers two points while adding another pair of points for the Lakers with a seventh place finish in the 200 meter distance. Setsuda finished with a time of 25.82. Setsuda would complete her solid meet with another three points for the Lakers as she finished sixth in the women's long jump.

Collins placed seventh in the women's high jump to earn the Lakers female team a pair of points. 

In the women's 1600 meter relay, the women's team added another two points with a seventh place finish. The team of Alexis Passino, Rebecca Lathrop, Collins, Setsuda, Breanyl Baker and Sarah Votruba combined for a time of 4:08.46. 

Mitter finished fifth in the men's 3000 meter distance run with a time of 8:22.78, which sets a new personal record for the junior while also setting a new school record in the event. Mitter registered four points for the men's team in the distance race. 

Willford placed fifth in the men's heptathlon with a total of 3869 points to earn the men's team four points. Willford placed first among the heptathletes in the high jump and pole vault. 

To complete the team's points in the competition, the men's 4000 meter relay team and the men's 1600 relay team each added a point with a pair of eighth place finishes. 

The Lakers will return to action on Friday, March 20 in Oxford, Ohio at the Blizzard Buster hosted by Miami (Ohio) University to open the outdoor season.
