Lake State Track & Field Set to Compete in the "Wide-Track" Classic

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the 2020 "Wide-Track" Classic on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 hosted by Hillsdale College at the Biermann Athletic Center in Hillsdale, Mich.

On Friday, the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon are set to begin at 12:00 p.m. and 12:10 p.m. respectively. The field events will start at 12:00 p.m. with the men's pole vault. While the running events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The women's pentathlon will include Elizabeth Setsuda while senior Roger Wilford competes in the men's pole vault. Following the men's pole vault will be the women's pole vault with the Lakers represented by freshmen Arianna Lazzaro and Sarah Votruba. The women's weight throw will begin at 4:00 p.m. featuring Sara Ostwald and Brittney Ryan. The men's and women's long jump will conclude Friday's field events at 5:00 p.m. The men's long jump will include Riley Nichols, Dwayne Thompson, and Roger Wilford, and on the women's side, Breanyl Baker and Ashley Mullings will compete for the Lakers.

The 60 meter hurdle prelims will have Andrew Giddens representing the Lakers. Directly following the hurdles, the 60 meter dash will include Breanyl Baker, Elizabeth Setsuda, Jessica Nicholas, and Nadya Woodson, and the men's side will also have a strong showing from Riley Travers, Dwayne Thompson, and Riley Nichols. The Lakers will be represented in the 3000 meter race on the women's side by Melody Perrin and Leah Bell, and on the men's side, the 3000 meter race will include David Mitter. The women's 200 meter competitors will be Ellie Bell, Jessica Nicholas, and Nadya Woodson. On the men's side, Riley Travers will compete. The men's 5000 meter race will include Kendal Delpiere. The women's and men's teams will both take part in the final event of the day the distance medley relay. The women's team will consist of Alexis Passino, Ellie Bell, Emily Merten, and Rebecca Lathrop. The men's team will be Kendal Delpiere, Andrew Giddens, Tom Hanke, and David Mitter.

On Saturday, the Lakers will return with the field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the running events at 12:30 p.m. The first event of the day for the Lakers will be the women's high jump which will include Riley Collins. The women's shot put will follow with performances from Sara Ostwald and Brittney Ryan. In the women's triple jump, Sarah Votruba will compete. The Lakers will be represented in both the women's and men's mile. The women's mile will include Alexis Passino, Emily Merten, and Rebecca Lathrop. The men's mile will follow with a race from sophomore Eric Somsky. In the 400 meter dash, Alyssa Mulford will represent the Lakers. The women's side will have four competitors in the 800 meter run: Rebecca Lathrop, Emily Merten, Caitlyn Schumann, and Alexis Passino. The concluding event of the meet will be the 4x400 meter relay. The women's team will feature Breanyl Baker, Ellie Bell, Riley Collins, and Elizabeth Setsuda. The men's relay team will include a final race from Tom Hanke, Riley Travers, Dwayne Thompson, and Andrew Giddens.

The Lakers will return to competition on Friday, February 21 for the GVSU Tune-Up Meet at Grand Valley State University.
