Lakers Mourn the Passing of Don Myers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State Athletics mourns the passing of former softball coach Don Myers, who passed away earlier this week. 

Myers, who was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was 84 years old, was the softball coach at Lake Superior State for 21 seasons. Myers, who coached 915 games from 1990-2010, was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1991. He also coached GLIAC Player of the Year Kerri Kelly (1995) and GLIAC Freshman of the Year Nichole Dunford (2010). In addition to his coaching, Myers helped establish the Bud Cooper Memorial Golf Classic.

Visitation will take place at the First United Presbyterian Church on April 27 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Funeral services will also take place at the First United Presbyterian Church with Reverend David Henderson beginning at 1:00 P.M. on April 27.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Anchor House c/o Marty Feldhake P. O. Box 1582, Sault Ste. Marie, MI or the First United Presbyterian Church Choir in Sault Saint Marie, MI.
