Cross Country Races in the NCAA Division II Regional Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Cross Country Championships at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 9. Results can be found here

The men's team was led by junior David Mitter, who qualified for last year's NCAA Division II Championships, as he placed 14th overall with a time of 31:56.1 at the 10,000-meter distance. Mitter's pace of 5:09 per mile allowed him to set a new personal record at the distance as he bested his previous time of 31:56.6 (2018 NCAA Division II Midwest Region Cross Country Championships). Mitter earned All-Region Honors with his finishing time.

The next finisher for the Lakers was junior Kendal Delpiere who crossed the finish with a time of 35:38.9 to place 139th overall. Junior Peter Shambaugh placed 150th overall among his peers with a time of 35:43.4 in the race. Daniel Anderson and Kevin Garland, both freshmen athletes, finished 196th and 202nd, respectively. Anderson registered a time of 39:17.6 while Garland's time was 40:45.7. Sophomore Eric Somsky was the final Laker to complete the distance as he finished with a time of 44:52.9 to finish 206th.

The Lakers women's team was led by senior Rebecca Lathrop and junior Alexis Passino who each set personal records at the 6,000-meter distance. Lathrop was the first Laker to finish the race and placed 126th overall with a time of 23:46.3. Passino's time of 25:03.8 placed her at 168th among finishers. Junior Emily Merten would finish the event with a time of 26:02.1 to record the 191st spot on the finishers list. Sophomores Leah Bell and Caitlyn Schumann would record times of 26:28.4 and 27:31.9, respectively. Bell placed 200th overall while Schumann finished at the 210th spot. Melody Perrin, a senior, was the final Laker female to finish but she would set a new personal record with her finish time of 27:33.9 at the 6,000-meter distance. 

The men's team finished 24th out of 31 competing teams while the women's team finished 29th out of 32 teams.
