LSSU Cross Country Set for Inaugural Warrior Challenge

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lake Superior State University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the inaugural Warrior Challenge hosted by Wayne State University this weekend.

The Warrior Challenge takes place on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Willow Metropark in New Boston, Michigan. Lake State's women's team will compete in the 6,000-meter race beginning at 11 a.m. and the men begin the 8,000-meter race 11:45 a.m. Others participating in the race include schools within the conference, as well as a few community colleges in the Midwest.

The Lakers' last action was at the Hillsdale College Invitational, where both the men's and women's teams captured second-place overall finishes. Fastest finish times for the men were claimed by David Mitter, Garrett Smith and Jack Miles. On the women's side, Alexis Passino had the fastest time for LSSU, followed by Lydia Heimonen and Rebecca Lathrop.

Following this weekend, Lake State competes at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 3.
