Velasque, Kalinowski, and McDaniel Receive All-GLIAC Recognition

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Emily Kalinowski (South Lyon, Mich.), and Emilee McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) have each received All-GLIAC volleyball honors with Velasque named to the All-GLIAC First Team, Kalinowski named to the All-GLIAC Second Team, and McDaniel receiving All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors, as announced by the league office on Friday.

Velasque led the GLIAC in kills during the regular season with 393 before finishing the season with 403 after the GLIAC quarterfinal. Her 403 kills rank as the fifth most in a single season in program history. Velasque also contributed 56 total blocks, 125 digs, and 18 service aces this season. She was also named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after coming away with over 60 kills at the 2023 Midwest Regional Crossover.

Kalinowski has been named to the All-GLIAC Second Team for the second consecutive season after finishing the season with 1081 assists, the fourth most assists in a single season. She also became only the fourth Laker in program history to amass over 2,000 assists in a single season, finishing her career with 2,468. She had over 50 assists in a game on three occasions this season, resulting in her being named GLIAC Setter of the Week three times following each instance. In addition to her impressive assist numbers, she has also contributed 305 digs and 32 blocks defensively while also supporting the offense with 65 kills and 31 aces.

McDaniel finished as the Lakers' second-leading attacker with 291 kills while also blocking 73 attacks, serving 21 aces, and recording 30 digs on the season. She also tied her career high in kills with 19 against Michigan Tech to help the Lakers play their way into the GLIAC tournament.
