PREVIEW: Laker Volleyball Set to Host Warriors and Panthers in Bud Cooper Gymnasium

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) volleyball program (3-12, 2-5 GLIAC) is set to face the Wayne State Warriors (5-10, 2-5 GLIAC) and the Davenport Panthers (7-8, 4-3 GLIAC) in Bud Cooper Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) continues to lead the GLIAC in kills with 197, and setter Emily Kalinowski (South Lyon, Mich.) has been leading the conference in assists against league opponents.

The Warriors are led offensively by Molly Miller with a total of 184 kills, and an average of 3.35 kills per set. Meanwhile, setter Kayla Dulgar leads the team in assists with 9.60 assists per set, and Kendyl Andrews leads the team defensively with 232 digs and an average of 4.14 digs per set.

The Lakers defeated the Warriors in their last meeting earlier this season in Detroit, but the Warriors were able to make an adjustment to force a fifth set after trailing the Lakers two sets to zero. The first serve is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m., and the Lakers encourage fans to wear pink as part of a 'pink out' in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Panthers are currently riding a 2-game winning streak going into the weekend. Offensively, the Panthers are led by Lindsay Taylor with a total of 167 kills, and an average of 2.88 kills per set. Defensively, Stephanie Kalinowski leads the team with 272 total digs and an average of 4.69 digs per set. This is the second chance that Lake State setter, Emily Kalinowski, has to beat her sister in a volleyball match.

The Panthers came away victorious in their previous meeting with the Lakers by a score of 3-1, and LSSU will be looking to split the season series on Saturday, Oct. 7 with the first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
