HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University volleyball (1-11, 0-4 GLIAC) fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies (7-4, 1-3 GLIAC) by a score of 3-0 on the road on Saturday.

Nina White (Chelsea, Mich.) opened up the scoring for the Lakers. The Huskies answered with a 4-0 run to take the lead, but the Lakers fought back as a kill from Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) cut the lead back down to a single point. Then, after a pair of points were scored by the Huskies, another kill from Velasque helped her team to a 3-0 scoring burst to tie up the set at 9-9. Both teams would continue this pattern with Michigan Tech scoring a pair followed by Emilee McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) and Maggie Morris (Schoolcraft, Mich.) giving Lake State three. The Huskies earned two more, and this time it would be a pair from Jordan Haller (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) capping off a 4-1 run for the Lakers. However, the Huskies were able to use a 5-0 run to retake the lead, and they would take the set by a score of 25-23.

The Huskies carried their momentum into the second set, and despite three strong kills from McDaniel, Michigan Tech claimed the second set 25-11.

Valeriya Varnakova (Ufa, Russia) would open up the scoring in the third set, and Velasque was able to give the Lakers a 6-5 advantage. The Huskies were able to take the lead, but another kill from Varnakova and a Sydney Briney (St. Joseph, Mich.) helped cut the deficit back down to two points. Then, after a 4-0 run from Michigan Tech, the Lakers fought back with a 6-1 run that featured three kills from Taylor Fleming (Rogers City, Mich.) to bring the score to 19-20.
