Volleyball Drops Match to Saginaw on the Road

SAGINAW, Mich. - The Lake Superior State volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Lakers hold an 8-17 overall record and a 2-12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) record. 

First Set: Cardinals won 25-16

Second Set: Cardinals won 25-16

Third Set: Cardinals won 25-17

The Lakers played the Cardinals for the second time this season after hosting Saginaw at home on Oct. 1. In both matches, the Lakers fell in straight sets. 

Senior outside hitter Amanda Reid led the team both offensively and defensively in the game as she recorded a team-leading 12 kills in the game as well as nine digs which was tied for the team lead. Reid's season totals increased to 256 kills, which is good for first on the Lakers, and 233 digs, which is second best on the team. Camdyn Odykirk's five kills in the game ranked second on the team behind Reid. 

Halle Grulke, the team's setter, added 24 assists in the game to bring her season total up to 585. 

Sophomore libero Abby Beachnau also notched nine digs in the game to tie Reid for the Laker lead in the game. Beachnau has now recorded 351 digs this season and ranks first among her teammates in the category.

Up Next

The Lakers will finish out the regular season with a pair of home matches against GLIAC Rivals Michigan Tech, on Friday, Nov. 15 at 4:00pm and Northern Michigan at 1:00pm on Saturday Nov. 16. The game against Northern will be senior night for the Lakers. Both Games will take place in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
