Volleyball to Continue GLIAC Play with a Pair of Road Matches

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State volleyball team will be back in action as they travel to face the Northwood University Timberwolves in Midland, Mich. on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. The following day, the Lakers will be in Big Rapids, Mich. to compete against the No. 17 Ferris State Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3:00 p.m. Both matches are against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponents.

Recap

Last weekend, the Lakers dropped a pair of conference matches in straight sets to Grand Valley State University and Davenport University. Despite the final scores, both games were competitive and evenly matched. Senior Amanda Reid and sophomore Camdyn Odykirk led the way offensively for the Lakers as they each recorded 16 kills in the pair of matches. Sophomore libero Abby Beachnau totaled 31 digs last weekend. After snapping a four-game win streak last weekend, the Lakers are looking to bounce back with a pair of wins this weekend.

About the Timberwolves (4-18, 4-7 GLIAC)

The Northwood Timberwolves are currently on a 10 game losing streak but have still played in many competitive sets. Earlier in the year when the Lakers faced the Timberwolves, the Timberwolves came out on top, winning the match three sets to one. Since then, the Timberwolves have picked up two more wins against Wisconsin Parkside as well as Purdue-Northwest. The Timberwolves are coached by the 17-year verteran, David Schumaker.

About the Bulldogs (17-5, 9-2 GLIAC)

The #17 Ferris State Bulldogs are currently ranked second in the GLIAC partially due to their impressive 9-1 record at home this season. Last time the Lakers and Bulldogs met in September, Ferris State won in three sets. The Bulldogs have an impressive 18.2 dig/set average this year, tiring their opponents out on offence. The Bulldogs are coached by Tia Brandel-Wilhelm who is in her 24th year as the Bulldogs coach.

Up Next

Following this weekend's matches, the Lakers will travel once again to Saginaw, Mich. to face the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start and will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9.
