Lakers set to host Saginaw Valley

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lake Superior State Volleyball team will face Saginaw Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at home on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Lakers are 5-21 overall with a 2-13 record against conference opponents. The Cardinals are 17-9 and 10-5 against GLIAC teams.

Last Time Out:

LSSU competed on home court last weekend, facing Northwood on Friday and Ferris State on Saturday. They fell to Northwood 3-2 and were swept by Ferris State.

By The Numbers:

Junior Amanda Reid leads the Lakers in kills with 295 and is ninth in the GLIAC. Freshmen Kelly Walter and Camdyn Odykirk are second and third on the team – Walter with 180 and Odykirk with 133.

Defensively, senior Paige Gotham leads the way with 436 digs and is sixth in the GLIAC. Reid has tallied 338 and senior Mikala Williams has 313.

Senior setter Lauren Lukasik has the team-high in assists with 415 and ranks 12th in the GLIAC. Freshman setter Halle Grulke has 323.

The Lakers' hitting percentage is .184 and the team has notched 1240 kills thus far. They have 1667 digs, tabbing them at fourth in the GLIAC.

Scouting The Cardinals:

Saginaw Valley's last action was last weekend, when they hosted Ferris State and Northwood. The Cardinals took both games to five sets, picking up the win against Northwood but falling to Ferris State.

The Cardinals are eighth in the conference with a team hitting percentage of .174. They have 1299 kills, ranking them third in the GLIAC.

Sarah Tabit leads the SVSU in kills with 330 and is fourth in the GLIAC. Abbie Toland has their team-high in digs with 466, good for fourth in the GLIAC.

With Saturday being the home finale, the Lakers will be honoring the team's seniors (Mikala Williams, Morgan Kelley, Paige Gotham, Lauren Lukasik and Jena Tulgestke) after the match.
