Laker Volleyball Falls to Ferris State in Straight Sets

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.— The Lake Superior State volleyball team fell to No.7-ranked Ferris State in straight sets (23-25, 21-25, 17-25) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Friday afternoon.

The Lakers drop to a 1-13 record overall and 0-6 against conference opponents. Ferris State is now 11-3, 6-0.

Lake State's offense was led by freshman Kelly Walter's ten kills. Junior outside hitter Amanda Reid had the next-best of eight.

Senior setter Lauren Lukasik led the Lakers in assists with 18. Freshman Halle Grulke had five.

On defense, Paige Gotham led the way with 14 digs. Reid and Lukasik were both close behind with 13 each.

LSSU had a hitting percentage of .067, while Ferris State's was .157.

Allyson Cappel led the Bulldogs offense with 13 kills and Katie Placek held down the defense with 19 digs.

The Lakers continue on the road Saturday, facing Northwood at 2 p.m. They return home next weekend, Sept. 28-29, to host Purdue Northwest on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (2 p.m.).
