LSSU Volleyball Continues GLIAC Play On the Road

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—The Lake Superior State volleyball team will continue its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road trip this weekend traveling to Wayne State Friday evening (7 p.m.) and Ashland on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).

The Lakers enter the weekend with a 1-10 record overall and are in search of their first conference win of the season at 0-3.

The Warriors are off to a 7-4, 2-1 start to the year. The Eagles are 10-2, 3-0 and lead the GLIAC South Division.

Last Time Out:
LSSU is coming off another narrow defeat on Tuesday falling to Saginaw Valley in a fifth set on the road.

Through the first 11 games of the 2018 season, Lake State has played a decisive fifth set in six matches after playing just one five-setter last year.

By The Numbers:
Junior outside hitter Amanda Reid leads the Laker attack with 118 kills (2.58/set) this season and is No.4 in hitting percentage at .124.

Freshman middle blockers Kelly Walter (72) and Camdyn Odykirk (62) are second and third respectively in total kills. Walter leads the team with a .188 hitting percentage.

Defensively, senior libero Paige Gotham leads the team and ranks No.8 in the GLIAC with 183 (4.07 per set) digs this season. Reid is second with 149 digs while senior Mikala Williams has posted 136.

Senior Lauren Lukasik continues to lead LSSU from the setter position with 175 assists on the year. Freshman Halle Grulke is second with 140.

As a team, the Lakers are hitting at a .162 clip with 429 total kills and are No.3 in the league in total digs with 743.

Scouting the Warriors:
On Tuesday, the Warriors surrendered their first GLIAC loss of the year falling to Ashland, 1-3, at home.

WSU owns a .188 hitting percentage on the season with 520 total kills and rank No.5 in the conference in assists per set (12.02).

Hailey Richardson paces the Warriors offense and ranks No.2 in the GLIAC in in total kills (166) and kills per set (4.37). Setter Kamryn Duffield ranks No.4 in the league in assists per set.

Scouting The Eagles:
Ashland enters this weekend's action leading the league with 636 total kills this season and rank No.3 with a .229 attack percentage.

On the defensive side, the Eagle top the GLIAC in total digs (837), digs per set (17.81) and total blocks (102).

Shelby Woycik leads the team offensively and ranks No.4 in the conference 154 kills on the year. Setter Zoey Peck leads the GLIAC in total assists (503) while libero Kaitlyn Bean tops the league in total digs (227).

Up Next:
After Tuesday's match, the Lakers will continue GLIAC play with a pair of road matches at No.11-ranked Ferris State (Sept.21) and Northwood (Sept.22).

Lake State return to Bud Cooper Gymnasium Sept.28-29 as they host Purdue-Northwest (6:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Parkside (2 p.m.)
