Lakers Drop Three Setter to Michigan Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—The Lake Superior State volleyball team fell to Michigan Tech in straight sets (15-25, 13-25, 16-25) Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Lakers drop to 1-9 overall on the season with an 0-2 mark in league play. The Huskies move to 8-2, 2-0.

LSSU was led offensively by junior outside hitter Amanda Reid who posted seven kills in the loss. Sarah Bailey, Camdyn Odykirk and Bethany Wilson finished with three kills respectively.

Freshman setter Halle Grulke led the team with nine assists. Senior Lauren Lukasik totaled seven.

On defense, Grulke and senior libero Paige Gotham shared the team lead with eight digs apiece.

Olivia Ghormley paced the MTU attack with a team-best 14 kills. Mariah Sherman tallied nine on the afternoon.

The Lakers will return to action next week as they begin a five-match road trip traveling to Saginaw Valley, Wayne State, Ashland, Ferris State and Northwood in conference competition.

LSSU returns home Sept.28 & 29 playing host to Purdue Northwest (6:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Parkside (2 p.m.).
