LSSU Volleyball Adds Two For 2018

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—Lake Superior State volleyball coach Dave Schmidlin has announced the addition of two student-athletes to his 2018 recruiting class.

Katja Wilhelms (Defensive Specialist) and Peyton Vandegrift (Outside Hitter) join a Lakers freshman class consisting of Camdyn Odykirk (Middle Blocker), Abby Beachnau (Defensive Specialist), Kelly Walter (Outside Hitter), Halle Grulke (Setter), Nina White (Outside Hitter) and Bethany Wilson (Middle Blocker).

Katja Wilhelms / Defense / 5-5 / Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./ Sault High School

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Wilhlems was a two-year letter at Sault High where she was named team MVP in both her junior and senior season. Wilhlems also garnered First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region honors in her two seasons with the Blue Devils. As a senior Wilhelms was also named the Straits Area Conference Player of the Year and was an Academic All-State selection.

Peyton Vandegrift / Outside Hitter / 5-8 / Chelsea, Mich./ Chelsea High School

A native of Chelsea, Mich., Vandegrift was a two-year letter winner at Chelsea High School where she teammates with fellow recruit, Nina White. Vandegrift was an All-Confrence Honorable Mention during her junior season and was named First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Region in her senior season with the Bulldogs.
