BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – With the end of the season looming, the Lake Superior State volleyball team paid a visit to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Ferris State on Saturday, November 4th.  The League-leading Bulldogs (19-6, 12-2 GLIAC) defeated the Lakers (3-21, 1-14 GLIAC) in straight sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-18).

The first set saw the Lakers pop out to an early lead, as kills by Jen Marren, Amanda Reid and Karlee Weissend put the Lakers ahead of the Bulldogs 7-5.  Ferris State then took the lead thanks to a 6 point run.  While Lake Superior rallied to make the score 20-17, the Bulldogs scored 5 straight points, earning a 25-17 victory in set one.

Lake Superior climbed out to an early lead again in the second set.  Kills by Reid, Marren and Elizabeth Ballor gave the Lakers a 9-6 lead.  The Bulldogs, however, answered back in much the same manner as they did in the set prior, as 5 straight points put Ferris State up by two.  Lake Superior kept pace with the Bulldogs, as a Ferris State service error put the Lakers within one point (19-18 FSU).  Unfortunately, 6 of the final 7 points were scored by the Bulldogs, as the home team took a 25-19 set win.

After falling behind in the first two sets, Ferris State jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set.  The Lakers managed to pare the lead back to 2 points.  Gradually, the Bulldogs took control of the set, as they ultimately pulled away with a 25-18 win.

On the stat sheet, the Lakers were led by Reid with 9 points.  Justice Kjolhede had 16 digs, followed by Reid with 14.  Madison Castle supplied 13 assists, with Lauren Lukasik close behind with 11.

Ferris State was led by Allyson Cappel with 19 points.  Lauren Reminga had 12 digs, while Nicole Malouhous put up 3 blocks.  As a team, the Bulldogs had 10 blocks and a .307 kill percentage.

The Lakers wrap up their season on Saturday, November 11th, when they travel to Saginaw for a match against the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State.  The Cardinals (5-21, 3-12 GLIAC) are coming off of a 3-0 loss at the hands of Northwood.  Game time is at 2 p.m.
