Lakers drop first match of the Midwest Volleyball Crossover to Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-1

AURORA, Ill. - Lake Superior State volleyball fell to their first opponent of the Mizuno Midwest Regional Volleyball Crossover on Friday, falling to Kentucky Wesleyan 3-1.  The Lakers were able to score a victory in the second frame, but ultimately could not overcome the Panthers and fell in a tight four-set match 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18.

The Lakers (0-14, 0-9 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) were led by Jen Marren's 12 kills on 30 attempts. Marren's totals were a season-high, while also adding a pair of block-assists.

Janelle Nagy and Brooke Williams contributed eight kills each. Nagy's 22 assists led the Lakers, followed by Madison Castle with 12.

The Lakers took advantage of 12 errors commited by Kentucky Wesleyan during the second set, to claim their first set-win of the season, 25-22.

The Panthers (2-14, 0-4 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) were led by Elizabeth Gober's match-high 18 kills. Autumn Harris and Nikki Jenkins each contributed 14 kills to propell them to victory.

The Lakers will play a pair of matches on Saturday to complete the Crossover. LSSU will play in the first grouping at 10 a.m. CT against Great Lakes Valley Conference's Bellarmine. In the tournament's final grouping, the Lakers will close out the weekend with a 4 p.m. CT match against GLVC opponent Southern Indiana.
