Lakers host Northwood, fall 3-0 to the Timberwolves

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State volleyball dropped its first home match of the season, falling to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference rivals Northwood 3-0 on Sunday. The Lakers concluded a busy weekend, which also featured two matches against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, in front of 206 fans in the Cooper Gymnasium.

Freshman Jena Tulgestke and sophomore Brooke Williams led the way for the Lakers with six kills each. Williams contributed a .214 kill-percentage from her 14 attacks.

Junior Janelle Nagy produced five kills to go along with her 15 assists. Nagy continues to lead the Lakers in kills (45), assists (15) and is second in digs behind Justice Kjolhede with 38.

Freshman Logan Hutek doled out eight assists to finish second on the Lakers behind Nagy.

Senior Sydne McMullen added a solo block and a pair of block-assists to lead the Lakers in blocks. McMullen and junior Jen Marren both chipped in three kills each.

Northwood's Chelsea Watson totaled a match-high eight kills on just 13 attacks, giving her a .615 kills-percentage. Allison Getty and Krysta Kramer combined for the second-most kills by Timberwolves players with both players notching seven.

Taylor Pritchett controlled the play for the Timberwolves while dishing out a match-high 25 assists. Pritchett also scored a kill on her only attack of the match.

The Lakers will host two GLIAC opponents next weekend. The Lakers open the weekend on Friday when they face Findlay at 7:00 p.m. and conclude the weekend with a 2 p.m. start time against Hillsdale on Saturday.
