Lakers fall 3-0 to the Huskies

HOUGHTON - Lake Superior State volleyball fell to Michigan Tech 3-0 on Friday to open the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference slate. The Lakers (0-5, 0-1) faced the Huskies (9-0, 1-0) for the second time this season since falling 3-0 to MTU Sept. 5 at the Wildcat Open.

Freshman Jena Tulgestke led the Lakers with seven kills on a .150 kill-percentage. Junior Jenna Kilmer chipped in four kills and led the team with a .625 kill-percentage.

Janelle Nagy, the versatile junior from Carleton, Mich., once again paced the Lakers by chipping in five kills to go along with 11 assists. Nagy also tallied the second-most digs for the Lakers, while sophomore Justice Kjolhede led the Lakers with nine digs.

Mariah Sherman totaled a match-high 11 kills to lead the Huskies. Lauren Emmert totaled nine kills and the two other Huskies, Stephanie Dietrich and Aubrey Ficek, added seven kills.  Rachel Pohlod totaled 34 assists to lead the home squad.

Michigan Tech collected 40 kills on the match while the Lakers were only able to garner 26 kills.

The Lakers will travel to Marquette to face Northern Michigan at 2 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday the Lakers will host their first home match of the 2015 season as they take on Northwood at 2 p.m.
