Lakers fall 3-0 to Huskies at the Wildcat Open

MARQUETTE, Mich.- Lake Superior State volleyball fell to Michigan Tech 3-0 Saturday in the team's third match of the Wildcat Open. The Lakers (0-3, 0-0 GLIAC) finish the tournament this afternoon at 3 p.m. when they face Cedarville (0-2).

Eight errors proved costly for the Lakers in the first set as they lost a close 25-23 opening frame. The Lakers outscored the Huskies in kills during the first set 16-12.

An 18-18 score had the teams deadlocked in the first before a string of miscues on serves doomed the Lakers. Beginning with a service error to give the Huskies the serve, a pair of service aces by MTU and a pair of errors by the Lakers opened the door for Huskies to capture the set.

The Huskies (3-0) controlled the second set with a 25-13 victory. A -.067 attack percentage doomed the Lakers in the middle frame

 The third and final set ended with a 25-17 victory for the Huskies that sealed the 3-0 match win.

The Lakers were led by Janelle Nagy with with nine kills on 16 attacks (.562). Nagy also collected 11 assists during the match. Jenna Kilmer and Jena Tulgestke each chipped in five kills. Justice Kjolhede collected 18 digs during the match.

Aubrey Ficek led the Huskies with 10 kills. Leading the Huskies in assists was Rachel Pohlod , who had 30 of the team's 38 assists.
