MARQUETTE, Mich.- Lake Superior State volleyball fell to Upper Iowa 3-0 on Friday in the team's second match of the Wildcat Open. The Lakers (0-2, 0-0 GLIAC) play a pair of matches Saturday, starting at 11 a.m., to finish their appearance in the six team non-conference tournament.
The Peacocks controlled the first set with 25-9 victory. In the second set the Lakers improved their attacking to a .286 percentage but still fell 25-16. The third set was close, as the Lakers picked up 12 kills against the Peacocks' 13, however UIU pulled away with a 25-20 victory.
The Lakers were unable to keep the errors at bay, however they did approve on their overall attacks from the previous night's match against Northern Michigan. They finished the match with 17 errors and 28 kills. Defensively, the Lakers struggled as the Peacocks recorded a .457 attack percentage, including a .538 clip in the second set.
The Lakers were led by Sydne McMullen with six kills on eight attacks (.750) and Elizabeth Ballor's six kills on 11 attacks (.364). Janelle Nagy once again led the Lakers in assists with six, while sophomore Justice Kjolhede finished with five assists. Nagy and Kjolhede tied for the team's lead in digs with seven apiece.
