GVSU upends LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE - Sara Hess and Abby Shereda totaled eight kills each for Lake Superior State during Friday's 25-13, 25-22, 25-19 loss to Grand Valley State.
The Laker volleyball team, which is 3-22 overall and 2-12 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, plays its final home match of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday against Ferris State. The Lakers will pay tribute to seniors Hess and Jessica Ewer prior to the match. They will also wear pink uniforms and sell pink ribbons to raise money for Dig for a Cure and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Hess had a .200 attack percentage, while Shereda chipped in two solo blocks. Janelle Balkwill finished with 26 assists. Brittany Newberry totaled 14 digs, and Jessica Ewer had 11.
Rebeccah Rapin totaled 10 kills, one solo block and five block assists to lead Grand Valley State (15-9 overall, 10-3 GLIAC).
