GVSU is tied for second place in GLIAC North after sweeping LSSU


ALLENDALE - Grand Valley State defeated Lake Superior State 25-13, 25-15, 25-11 during Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match to move into a tie for second place with Ferris State in the GLIAC North Division standings.

GVSU (8-6 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) and FSU trail division leader Saginaw Valley State by one game. LSSU (1-13 overall, 1-5 GLIAC) plays at Ferris State on Saturday.

Sara Hess and Jessica Ewer totaled four kills each, and Janelle Balkwill had 12 assists for the Lakers, who played the match without libero Brittany Newberry, who was ill. Ewer also led LSSU in digs with nine.

Whitney Tremain and Rebeccah Rapin had 11 kills each for Grand Valley State.
