Volleyball team to hold Dig Pink event Saturday

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team will hold a "Dig Pink" breast cancer awareness event in conjunction with Senior Day when the Lakers take on Ferris State at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Members of LSSU women's basketball team will be selling pink ribbons for $1 and taking donations for breast cancer research on behalf of the volleyball program. The Laker volleyball players will be wearing pink uniforms in celebration of "Dig Pink." All proceeds will go to Dig for a Cure, which is part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Students from LSSU's athletic training program will also be selling breast cancer awareness t-shirts for $12 and donating the profits.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and last weekend's Pink in the Rink hockey event generated more than $14,000 for local women's health organizations.

LSSU seniors Sara Hess and Jessica Ewer will be recognized prior to Saturday's match.
