Wildcats come back to beat Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team stormed to a Set 1 win during Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match against Northern Michigan, but couldn't sustain the momentum.
The Wildcats (16-8 overall, 9-3 GLIAC) rallied back to win the next three sets and claimed a 15-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-11 victory.
LSSU (6-14 overall, 2-10 GLIAC) compiled 11 kills and had only one attack error for a .476 attack percentage during the first set. The Lakers were held to 20 kills the rest of the way.
Sara Hess led LSSU with 11 kills, and Ali Jones followed with 10. Hess also led in blocks with one solo and three assists. Jones added two service aces.
Ashley Purvis totaled 23 assists, and Brittany Newberry had 20 digs.
Daniela Bezerra and Mandie Meyer had 13 kills each to lead NMU.
Seniors Trisha Dutton, Brishia Stroven, Purvis and Jones will honored during Saturday's match against Michigan Tech. The Lakers play the Huskies at 2 p.m. in Cooper Gymnasium.
