GLIAC leader GVSU defeats LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE - Ninth-ranked Grand Valley State remained unbeaten in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after sweeping Lake Superior State, 25-15, 25-13, 25-20, during Saturday's volleyball match.
LSSU (3-8 overall, 2-5 GLIAC) played without kill leader Ali Jones, who suffered a broken nose and a cut above her eye when diving out of bounds for a ball during Friday against Ferris State.
Sara Hess stepped in and led the Lakers in kills with five, while Ashley Purvis had 16 assists. Brittany Newberry totaled a team-high 13 kills.
Rebeccah Rapin had nine kills to lead GVSU (14-2 overall, 7-0 GLIAC). Grand Valley State dominated at the net, totaling 12 team blocks to LSSU's one.
Lake Superior State, which finished 2-2 during its recent four-match homestand, plays Oct. 3 at Northwood.
