Laker Women's Tennis Earn 4-3 Win Over the Pride

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis team (4-8, 2-2 GLIAC) earned a 4-3 victory over the visiting Purdue Northwest Pride (7-14, 1-4 GLIAC) on Friday.

The Lakers got off to a hot start in doubles play as the duo of Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) wasted no time on their way to a dominant 6-0 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) and Trinity Ly (Brampton, Ont.) would then secure a crucial doubles point after winning three consecutive games to close out the top doubles spot by a score of 6-4.

Parodi extended the Lakers' lead to 2-0 after claiming a victory at the No. 4 spot in straight sets by a score of 6-3, 6-4, but the Pride fought back, winning the top two singles matches to tie up the score at 2-2 overall. Ly would then push Purdue Northwest to the brink, shaking off dropping a tiebreaker in the second set to close out a 6-2, 6-7, 6,-2 victory in the No. 3 singles match. The Pride once again tied up the match overall after taking the No. 6 spot, but Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat, Spain) proved to be the hero, as the senior delivered the win for her team after locking in for a 7-5, 6-4 straight-set victory.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, April 13 when they host the Davenport Panthers for Senior Day with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
