Laker Women's Tennis Fall to Florida Southern

Laker Women's Tennis Fall to Florida Southern

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis team (1-4) fell to the Mocs of Florida Southern (4-6) by a final score of 7-0 on Sunday.

The Lakers were able to have some strong performances in doubles play with the duo of Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) and Trinity Ly (Brampton, Ont.) earning a 7-5 victory at the top Doubles spot over Florida Southern's pairing of Kennedi Brown and Kelly Klaren, but despite a strong effort by Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) to take three games in the No. 2 doubles match, the Mocs were able to take the early lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.

Florida Southern would then manage to claim victories across all six singles matches, but the Lakers were still able to get strong efforts in their matches with Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat, Spain) narrowly dropping her opening set by two points in an 8-6 tiebreaker and Martina Oviedo (Cordoba, Argentina) battling to a 4-6 result in her first set as well.

The Lakers return to action on Monday, March 3 for their second match of the 2024 PTR Spring Tennis Fest when they face Assumption with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
