Women's Tennis Defeated by Grand Valley in Final Home Match of the Season

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis team dropped a match to the Grand Valley State Lakers by a final score of 7-0 on Saturday, April 17 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match in the Student Activity Center in Sault Ste Marie, Mich. Through nine matches this season, the Lakers hold a 2-7 overall record and a 1-6 record in conference play.

In doubles play, Lake Superior State fell to the GVSU Lakers in each of the three matches to drop the match's opening point to the visiting team. 

The visiting Lakers played strong in the singles competition as well taking all six matches to secure the conference victory. In the top match between Nadege Koua and GVSU's Vera Griva, Koua fell in two competitive matches by scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Muskaan Ranjan, playing in the No. 2 spot for LSSU, dropped her match in the second set, falling in the tiebreaker. 

In the third singles match, Claudia Sole was defeated in the third set after winning the second set by a score of 6-3 to force the decisive set. The Lakers final three singles players - Keegan Malpass, Julia Fraile Raton, and Riley Gilman each fell in their matches to Grand Valley. 

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will wrap up the regular season of GLIAC play on Monday, April 19 at the Gates Tennis Center in Houghton, Mich. against the Michigan Tech Huskies. The match is set to start at 9:00 a.m.
