Preview: Laker Tennis To Host Tiffin in Home Opener

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's and men's tennis teams will play host to Tiffin University in the 2021 LSSU tennis home opener on Saturday, March 6 at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively. The matches will be played in the Norris Center's Student Activity Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The Laker women had a strong performance in their first match, recording a 7-0 victory over Lawrence Tech. After a narrow 2-1 victory in doubles, the Lakers had a dominant performance in singles. They will be looking to use the momentum from that performance to propel them to a strong season. Laker head coach, Luke Ogren, said, "The women were definitely a bit tight to start the first match, but were very strong when they got more relaxed. I think we have made some more big steps in practice and are ready for a big match with a tough opponent."

The Laker men will be in for an exciting matchup with Tiffin as former Lake Superior State standout, Joe Gilman will be playing as a graduate student for Tiffin. The Lakers look to bounce back from a very hard-fought defeat against Lawrence Tech, 4-3 on Feb. 20. Ogren said, "the guys are coming off a tight match and have really been working hard this week at practice. I think that will show a lot in our performance against Tiffin."

There will be no fans in attendance, due to GLIAC rules. The match will be live streamed on the Lake State Tennis Facebook page which can be found here.
