Preview: Laker Tennis Opens 2021 Season at Lawrence Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State men's and women's tennis teams will open the 2021 season with a non-conference match against Lawrence Tech on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 5:00 p.m. in Southfield, Mich.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to the court for the first time in over a year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In his fifth season in the role with the Lakers, head coach Luke Ogren will look to continue to build upon the progress that the program has made in recent years.

The men's team will be highlighted by the return of juniors Diego Penz and Seth Pinnoo, and sophomores Harris Rehan, Ali Sahibzada, and Krishan Taneja. The other two members of the Laker squad are Juho Kantola (freshman) and Xavier Vicent Navarro (sophomore transfer) who have yet to play a full season with the Lakers.

On the women's side, the team will return all but one of last season's roster as the Lakers are primed for a strong return this spring. Juniors Milena Baigorria and Muskaan Ranjan will both be looked upon by Ogren for strong seasons while sophomores Nadege Koua and Keegan Malpass will look to continue their successes as Lakers this season. Riley Gilman and Madelin Harrod will both be key players for the Lakers this season. The newcomers joining the Lakers this season will be Julia Fraile Raton, a freshman, and Claudia Sole, a transfer from Tennessee State University.

Looking Ahead

The Lakers have a few weeks off before returning to competition on Saturday, March 6 with a home non-conference match against Tiffin University in the Student Activity Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
