Women's Tennis Captures 5-2 win over Ferris State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State women's tennis team (2-4) defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Ferris State University (2-3) by a score of 5-2. This is the Lakers' first win against the Bulldogs since September 28, 2012.

Lake State continued their solid doubles play into Sunday morning as they took the point away from Ferris. At No. 1 doubles, Tara Harvey and Nadege Koua won, 6-3 while No. 2 doubles, AlexiAnn Drouin and Margo Muller won, 7-5. Ferris State won at No. 3 doubles, as Jenay Andrews and Allison Grandfield lost 6-1.

In singles, the Lakers kept the momentum rolling as Drouin won in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Koua at No. 2 won, 6-3, 6-3, and Harvey won in a three set thriller, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Muller won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 5 Andrews fell to Ferris in a tiebreak, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6, and No. 6, Allison Grandfield lost, 7-5, 7-5.

The Lakers travel downstate next weekend to visit Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Oct. 13) and Davenport University on Sunday (Oct. 14). With a win over Purdue Northwest, Lake State will clinch a spot in the GLIAC tournament.
