SAGINAW, Mich.- Lake Superior State women's tennis team visited Saginaw Valley Sunday in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

The Lakers fell to the Cardinals 4-3 and slip to 1-3 overall on the season.

The Lakers took the doubles point with wins from No.1 and No. 3. At No.1 doubles Tara Harvey and Nadege Koua won 6-4 while Allison Grandfield and Jenay Andrews at No. 3 won 6-4. Losing a close match at the No. 2 spot was AlexiAnn Drouin and Margo Muller 7-6 (3).

With the momentum on the Lakers side entering singles play, Quebec natives, Drouin at No. 1 (1-6, 6-2, 6-4) and Koua at No. 2 (6-3, 2-6, 7-5) picked up victories in a thrilling 3 set match.

The Lakers needed one more win to claim the victory but couldn't prevail.

At No. 3, Tara Harvey lost 6-0, 6-3, Margo Muller fell at No.4 6-1, 6-4. At No. 5, Jenay Andrews lost, 6-1,6-4, and rounding out the lineup was freshman, Keegan Malpass, she lost 6-2, 6-2.

"We came out with a lot more energy and carried it through to singles play,' said Ogren. "The team is still in a strong position and I'm looking forward to taking this form to senior day next weekend."

Next weekend (Oct. 6 & Oct. 7), Lake State hosts rivals, Grand Valley State University and Ferris State University in senior weekend as they honor, Grandfield, Andrews, Harvey, and Kirstin Malpass.
