Lake State Women’s Tennis Defeats Ashland

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lake Superior State women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win as they hosted Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Ashland on Sunday afternoon.

LSSU started off by going undefeated in doubles play to pick up the doubles point. At the No.1 spot, Tara Harvey and Nadege Koua won 6-1. At No.2, AlexiAnn Drouin and Margo Muller also won by a 6-1 score. Jenay Andrews and Allison Grandfield completed the doubles sweep in the No.3 spot, winning 6-3.

In singles action, No.1 AlexiAnn Drouin won (6-1, 6-4). Nadege Koua, in the No.2 spot, picked up a win (6-1, 6-2). At No.3, Tara Harvey won (7-5, 6-1). Margo Muller won in the No.4 spot (6-3, 7-5). Allison Grandfield, in the No.5 spot, lost in a tiebreaker (6-7 (2), 6-2, 10-6). No.6 Jenay Andrews picked up a win (6-2, 6-4).

The Lakers hit the road next weekend to face another pair of conference opponents. They visit Northwood on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match, followed by a 10 a.m. start against Saginaw Valley on Sunday.

LSSU returns home Oct. 6-7 to host Grand Valley on Saturday and Ferris State on Sunday, with both matches beginning at 10 a.m. Matches are held in the Arbuckle Student Activity Center and admission is free.
