Women’s Tennis Opens Season at Wisconsin-Green Bay

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The 2018-19 season commences this weekend for the Lake Superior State women's tennis team as they travel to Green Bay, Wisc., to take on Division I Wisconsin- Green Bay on Sunday.
The Laker men's will also get a chance to compete on Sunday.

After coming off of a 6-11 record the women's team look to make the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament this season.

"We are looking strong coming into the fall semester," said LSSU head coach Luke Ogren. "We have added a lot of talent with three new girls. All three of them will have a good shot to be in the lineup during the season with a couple potentially playing near the top."

The Lakers add three new girls to the roster this season with Nadege Koua and Keegan Malpass entering as the 2018 freshman class. Division I transfer (Alabama State) student Margo Muller is entering her third season playing college tennis.  Ogren adds, "I think the three of them have helped raise the level of intensity at practice and it will help us to improve a lot more as the season goes on."

Lake States returns with last season's GLIAC player of the year, AlexiAnn Drouin, senior captain, Tara Harvey who has a 38 career wins in singles and doubles, Jenay Andrews who is entering her final year as a Laker with a career total of 39 wins in singles and doubles, senior

Allison Grandfield has a career 35 wins in singles and doubles, and rounding out the returners are senior, Kirsten Malpass.

"Step one is get to the conference tournament. We have the talent to compete with anybody so if we can convert on opportunities it will be a great year." Ogren adds.

Lakers will start conference play when they host Wayne State and Ashland University on September 22 and 23.
