Lakers fall to Ashland 6-3

ASHLAND, Ohio - Lake Superior State women's tennis dropped their second match on the weekend, falling to Ashland 6-3 on Sunday. The loss marks the fourth straight for the Lakers (0-4, 0-4 GLIAC) to begin the season.

Senior Sarah Awe and freshman Jenay Andrews opened up the doubles portion with a win in the No. 1 slot over Zdenka Pozo and Andrea Ruiz, 9-7. The victory moved Awe and Andrews to 2-2 as doubles partners this season. The Eagles (1-3) went on to capture the other two doubles matches.

Awe continued her winning ways and improved to 2-2 in singles with a three-set 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 victory over Pozo. The Eagles went on to win the No. 2-5 singles matches to ensure the match victory.

Freshman Allison Grandfield closed out the match with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Natalie Keron in the No. 6 slot. The win marked the first for Grandfield as a Laker.

The Lakers will look for their first team victory next weekend on the road to Saginaw Valley State and Northwood Sept. 19-20.
