Pflieger and Lomacka earn All-GLAIC honors

BAY CITY - Lake Superior State freshman Ingrid Pflieger was named to the 2008 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team, while senior Weronika Lomacka received honorable mention.
Pflieger, of Grossaitingen, Germany, was 5-10 overall and 3-6 against GLIAC competition while playing No. 1 singles for the Lakers. Pflieger teammed with fellow rookie Erin Wiethoff and was 9-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Lomacka, a senior from Warsaw, Poland, was 9-8 overall and 3-6 against GLIAC opponents at No. 2 singles in 2008. The Florida Southern transfer had a two-year singles record of 16-10 at LSSU.
"The ladies really performed well at the GLIACs and played extremely hard throughout the season,"
said LSSU coach Charlie Drury, whose team finished seventh this
season after not qualifying for the eight-team GLIAC Tournament in
2007. "This is a very good young team and we surprised many with our performance. Without any question I believe we were the most improved team in the
GLIAC. With the young team we have, I think that experience partly played
a part in the four matches we lost 5-4.
They are matches
that easily could have been 5-4
in our favor.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the determination and
fight this team showed through the season and are excited to build upon it in the future."
