The Spring Games Day 2

The Spring Games Day 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Lake Superior State softball team dropped a pair of games on Thursday at The Spring Games in Florida. The Lakers (3-6) lost their morning decision 14-2 against Gannon University, and fell 8-0 against University of Indianapolis during the day's second contest.

The Lakers were unable to find an answer against Gannon University in the first contest of the morning, as the bats for the Golden Knights (4-4) combined for 14 hits in 27 at bats to pace the offense.

The Golden Knights opened the first inning with five runs on three hits and three walks.  Alyssa Archambeault connected for a triple with the bases loaded to highlight the top half of the inning and put Gannon up 5-0.

Achambeault finished 4-for-4 and a home run shy of the cycle while driving in a game-high five runs.

The Lakers responded in the bottom half of the first inning after loading the bases with two outs and a walk drawn by Katie Martin to plate Lindsey Pajot for their first run of the game.  Pitcher Alyssa Boucher singled in the Lakers next at-bat to score Carly Banchiu, but that was all the Lakers could muster as Olivia Gumbita (W, 4-0) settled in to get through the final four innings unscathed.

Boucher pitched 3.1 innings and allowed seven runs (three earned).

Alyssa Thayer (L, 1-3) was tagged with the decision after allowing seven runs in 1.2 innings.

Pajot finished 2-for-2 to lead the Lakers at the plate.

Gannon added two runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning and capped the game with their 14th run in the fifth and final inning.

The second game of the day for the Lakers came against the defending NCAA Division II Midwest Regional and Super Regional Champions, University of Indianapolis.

The Greyhounds (9-0) curbed the Lakers offensively as starting pitcher Miranda Tamayo (W, 2-0) relied on a solid defensive effort behind her to pick up a two-hitter. Tamayo totaled just one strikeout in five innings of work and did not walk any batters.

On the mound for the Lakers, sophomore Riley Durbano (L, 1-2) totaled two strikeouts but walked eight and was tagged for all eight runs by UIndy.

In the second inning, left fielder Erika Goodwin stepped into a two-run home run that put the 'Hounds up 6-0. Goodwin reached on a fielder's choice in the next inning to drive in her third RBI of the day and put the Greyhounds up 7-0.

With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, the Greyhounds earned a walk to go up 8-0 and close the ballgame.
