Laker Women's Basketball Face Setback Against Bulldogs

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (1-20, 0-12 GLIAC) fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs (17-2, 11-1 GLIAC) by a final score of 94-55 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs struck first, but Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) found Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) in the corner for three to give LSSU the early lead. Both teams would then go back and forth as threes from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) and Amanda Roach (Hartland, Mich.) put their team back in front. However, despite a pair of baskets from CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.), Ferris State found themselves up by five after the first ten minutes of action.

Bradford and Metz would again hit from distance early in the second quarter to cut into the lead as the Lakers pushed back, always seeming to have an answer for the Bulldogs throughout the opening half. They would then close out the half with a 7-3 scoring spurt to go into the locker room only trailing 35-31 to the No. 7 ranked team in the country.

Hacker opened the second half with a three to cut the lead to one. However, Ferris State responded in force, and despite seven fourth quarter points from Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio), the Bulldogs would ultimately hold on for the victory.

Bradford led the team in scoring with 12 points while Metz was right behind her with 11 while also blocking three shots defensively.

The Lakers return to action on Thursday, Feb. 15 when they host the Wayne State Warriors with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
