Laker Women's Basketball Face Setback Against Michigan Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (1-18, 0-10 GLIAC) fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies (10-8, 6-4 GLIAC) by a final score of 81-49 on Thursday.

The Lakers started off strong with a pair of threes from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) and CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) to take a 6-0 lead. The Huskies were able to close the gap, but Bradford was there to answer with back-to-back buckets. Her younger sister Maddie Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) would then get in on the action with two-straight baskets of her own as LSSU held a 14-9 advantage after the opening quarter.

The Huskies managed to come back to take the lead, but multiple baskets from both Grace Bradford and Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) kept the Lakers within striking distance at the halftime break.

Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) made her presence felt to open the second half. However, despite a fourth-quarter basket from Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio), the Huskies were able to hold on for the victory.

Grace Bradford led the way offensively for the Lakers with 13 points while also securing 11 rebounds for the double-double and picking up three steals on the defensive end of the floor. Meanwhile, Golden also finished in double-figures with 11 points off the bench.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 3 when they host the Northern Michigan Wildcats with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
