Laker Women's Basketball Face Setback Against GVSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (1-14, 0-6 GLIAC) fell to the No. 1 ranked Grand Valley State Lakers (15-1, 6-0 GLIAC) by a final score of 69-25 on Thursday.

CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) opened up the scoring with back-to-back baskets to give LSSU a 4-0 lead over the top-ranked team in the nation, and she raced the length of the floor on her way to one more bucket before the end of the opening quarter.

Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) would then get in on the action with four-straight points before Brittany Bowman (Kingsley, Mich.) hit a three as both teams battled in the first half. Grand Valley began to pull ahead, but Hacker beat the buzzer to keep LSSU within seven going into the halftime break.

However, despite five fourth quarter points from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.), Grand Valley was able to pull away for the victory.

The Lakers return to action when they face the Davenport Panthers on Saturday, Jan. 20 with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
