Laker Women's Basketball Fall on the Road to the Pride

WESTVILLE, Ind. - The Lake Superior State University (LSSU) women's basketball team (0-7, 0-2 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Purdue Northwest Pride (4-4, 1-1 GLIAC) by a final score of 51-45 on Saturday.

The Pride were able to strike first, but Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) hit a three to get the Lakers on the board. Both teams would continue to battle, but the Pride used a late shot in the quarter to take a 14-9 lead into the stoppage. Iara Navarro (Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina) would hit a shot down low to cut the lead down to one, but Purdue Northwest answered to take a five-point advantage into halftime.

The Lakers fought back early in the second half with threes from Amanda Roach (Hartland, Mich.) and Makenna Clement (Byron, Mich.) giving LSSU their first lead of the game. Both teams would then go back and forth, but Purdue Northwest was able to retake a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Both teams continued to fight for control with neither able to pull away as multiple baskets by Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) kept the Lakers close. However, the Pride would ultimately hold on to survive when the final buzzer sounded.

Bradford led the way for the Lakers with a 15-point, 10 rebound double-double, and Clement also finished with double-digit scoring with 11 points.

The Lakers return to action on Friday, Dec. 15 when they travel to face Lynn with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
