Women's Basketball Set for Tough Road Test Against the No. 3 GVSU Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team will match up against the No. 3 Grand Valley State University Lakers in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game on Saturday, Jan. 4 to start a streak of five straight road games. The game which will be played in Allendale, Mich. is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.

The Lakers (6-5, 2-2 GLIAC)

The Lakers return to play following a GLIAC win against Davenport University Panthers on Thursday by a final score of 63-57. With the win, the Lakers overall record improved to 6-5 while the team sits at .500 (2-2) in conference matchups this season. The Lakers are led by senior forward Lexie Khon who averages 12.1 points a game this season. Khon has posted 10 or more points in seven of the Lakers games this season. Freshman Mattison Rayman sits in second on the team with 9.9 points per game this season while Claire Radtke has also been averaging over nine points a game for the Lakers this season (9.2 ppg). In the team's most recent game, Radtke posted a season-high 17 points for LSSU. Rayman leads the Lakers in rebounds per game with an average of 9.4, which is fifth in the GLIAC. 

Through 11 games this season, the Lakers have averaged 58.4 points per game, 33.2 rebounds per game and a 38.3 shooting percentage. 

Grand Valley State University Lakers (12-0, 4-0 GLIAC)

The GVSU Lakers, who hold a perfect 12-0 overall record and a 4-0 GLIAC record this season, will look to continue their success in Saturday's game. Senior center Cassidy Boensch leads the Lakers as she is one of two players in the GLIAC who averages over 20 points per game this season. Boensch averages 20.1 points per game for GVSU on a 63.1 shooting percentage while also adding a team-leading 9.5 rebounds per game. Senior forward Maddie Dailey who averages 14.7 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game and senior guard Jenn DeBoer who averages 12.8 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game have both been important players for the Lakers this season. 

Through 12 games this season, Grand Valley State averages 82.7 points per game, 43.2 rebounds per game and a 50.7 shooting percentage.

The Lakers will play a pair of road games next weekend against Saginaw Valley and Northwood. The game against SVSU is set for an 1:00 p.m. start on Thursday, Jan. 8 and the game against Northwood is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip off on Saturday, Jan. 11.
