SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State University women's basketball head coach Brandon Lokken has announced the hiring of Cameron Clayton as assistant coach.

Clayton will serve as the lead assistant for the Lake State women's basketball program.

"We are excited to bring Cameron into our Laker basketball family," Lokken said. "Cameron brings great coaching experience to our program along with a strong passion to develop student-athletes. His energy along with his experience will be a great addition to our coaching staff."

Clayton comes to Lake Superior State from the University of Illinois Springfield, where he had served as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team since 2016.

"I am excited about becoming a part of the Lake Superior State women's basketball program," Clayton said. "I would like to thank coach Lokken for the opportunity to coach alongside him and I am excited to get to work with the team. I am grateful to be a part of the LSSU community and university family."

While serving as assistant coach at University of Illinois Springfield, Clayton assisted with scouting upcoming opponents and implementing strategies in practice. He was responsible for development and training of post players. He coached multiple Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Conference honorees, including a 2018-19 GLVC All-Freshman Team selection. In addition, post players he coached moved into first place in program history for single-season rebounds, single-season blocks and career blocks. One of his student-athletes also set the single-game rebound record for the Prairie Stars.

Clayton has also served as the head coach for the Predators AAU girls' basketball team in Springfield, Illinois since 2017. Prior to becoming head coach, he also served as assistant coach for the Predators from 2015 to 2016. Clayton also had a brief stint as head coach of the South Fork High School girls' basketball team in 2015.

A 2015 graduate of MacMurray College with a bachelor's degree in sport management, Clayton is a native of Edinburg, Illinois. He resides in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
