Women’s Basketball Falls to Ferris State in Season Finale

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.  — Lake Superior State women's basketball fell to Ferris State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday evening in Bud Cooper Gym.

Despite the loss, Lake Superior State's (8-19, 3-17 GLIAC) eight wins in 2018-19 are the most in a season since 2011-12 when the Lakers finished 10-16 (6-13 GLIAC). 

Lake Superior State fell behind 15-11 in the first quarter. Ferris State (11-16, 7-13 GLIAC) added on 17 more points compared to the Lakers' 16 in the second quarter, bringing the score to 27-32 at the half. In the third quarter, Ferris State outscored Lake State 19-16 and the Bulldogs led 51-43 heading into the final frame. The Lakers added 16 points in the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs scored 17, bringing the final to a 68-59 win for Ferris State.

Sophomore guard Jenna Gregory had the team lead in points for the Lakers, notching 13. Senior guard Courtney Jacobsen and sophomore guard Rebecca Villanueva each tallied 11 points. Gregory also led the team in rebounds with nine. Redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt had the team high in assists with eight.

The Lakers were 13-of-17 on free throws, while the Bulldogs were 7-of-11.

Lake State shot 32.8 percent from the field, including 38.1 percent on three-pointers. Ferris State had a shooting percentage of 49.2 and shot 12.5 percent from behind the arc.
