Women's Basketball Falls to No. 11 Ashland 75-53

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball fell to No. 11 Ashland University by a score of 75-53 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State (7-15, 2-13 GLIAC) fell behind 20-14 in the first quarter. Ashland (21-2, 13-2 GLIAC) added 20 points in the second quarter, compared to the Lakers' 15, bringing the score to 40-29 at the half. In the third frame, Ashland doubled up the Lakers, outscoring them 18-9. The Lakers trailed 58-38 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final stanza, the Lakers were outscored 19-17, bringing the final to 75-53 in favor of Ashland.

Sophomore guard Jenna Gregory led the Lakers in scoring with 13 points. She also notched a team-high seven rebounds. Junior forward Lexie Khon tallied 12 points and four rebounds.

Lake Superior State shot 31.3 percent from the field and 28.6 percent on three-pointers. Ashland had a field goal percentage of 49.2, including 28.6 percent from behind the three-point arc.

On free throws, the Lakers were 9-of-12 and the Eagles were 11-of-14.

The Lakers are in action again next week at home. On Thursday, Feb. 14, they take on Michigan Tech at 5:30 p.m. and they host Northern Michigan at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Bud Cooper Gymnasium. On Saturday, the Lakers will honor their graduating seniors with Senior Day.
