Women's Basketball Defeats Wayne State 50-46

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball picked up a 50-46 win against Wayne State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday evening in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

With the win, Lake Superior State (7-14, 2-12 GLIAC) has won the most games in a season since 2014-15 when the Lakers finished the season with seven victories.

Lake Superior State (7-14, 2-12 GLIAC) took a 16-4 lead after the first quarter. Wayne State (11-11, 6-8 GLIAC) outscored the Lakers in the second quarter 11-8, making the score 24-15 in favor of the Lakers at the half. Wayne State had a one-point advantage over the Lakers in the third quarter, 18-17, but Lake State maintained a 41-33 lead with one frame to go. The Warriors outscored the Lakers in the fourth quarter 13-9, but Lake State held on for the 50-46 victory.

Junior forward Lexie Khon led the Lakers with 12 points. Sophomore guard Jenna Gregory and redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt both had nine. Gregory also grabbed 11 rebounds, while junior guard Claire Radtke had seven.

The Lakers were 13-of-18 on free throws and the Warriors were 11-of-18. 

The Lakers made 31.3 percent of their shots from the field, including 25.9 percent on three-pointers while the Warriors shot 25.4 percent overall and 15.8 from behind the three-point arc.

The Lakers continue play at home against No. 11 Ashland on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
