UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — Lake Superior State women's basketball fell to Saginaw Valley State University by a 66-52 final in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Lake Superior State (6-14, 1-12 GLIAC) came out with a strong first quarter, scoring 17 points compared to Saginaw Valley State (4-16, 4-9 GLIAC) notching seven. The Cardinals bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring the Lakers 15-7, bringing the score at the half to a 24-22 Lake State lead.

In the third frame, Saginaw Valley State outscored Lake Superior 23-15, extending the Cardinals lead to 45-39. They maintained the lead through the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points, while the Lakers notched 13, making it a 66-52 final in favor of Saginaw Valley State.

Sophomore guard Jenna Gregory notched a double-double for Lake State, with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Lexie Khon had the team-lead in points with 16 and was a rebound shy of a double-double, tallying nine. Junior guard Claire Radtke led in assists with five.

The Lakers shot 33.9 percent from the field and made 25.0 percent of three-point shots. Saginaw Valley State was successful on 40.0 percent of their shots, including 40.0 percent of their three-pointers.

Lake State converted on 10-of-16 free throws, while the Cardinals made 12-of-18.

The Lakers' next home action is on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Wayne State in a conference matchup in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
