MIDLAND, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball fell to Northwood University by a 71-41 final in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday evening.

Lake Superior State (6-13, 1-11 GLIAC) fell behind 17-8 in the first quarter of play. Northwood (9-11, 6-6 GLIAC) then scored 14 points in the second stanza while the Lakers scored 12, making the score 31-20 at the half. The Timberwolves then outscored the Lakers 19-11 in the third quarter, bringing the score to 50-31. Northwood outscored LSSU 21-10 in the final frame to make the final score 71-41.

Redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt led the Lakers in points with 13 while junior forward Lexie Khon was second with 10. DeWildt also led in assists with five. Sophomore guard Jenna Gregory had the team-high in rebounds with six.

Lake Superior State made 5-of-8 from the free throw line, while Northwood converted 12-of-15.

The Lakers made 39.5 percent of their shots from the field, including 35.3 percent on three-point shots and the Timberwolves had a field goal percentage of 49.0 with a 45.0 percent success rate from behind the three-point arc.

Lake State continues GLIAC play on the road Saturday with a matchup against Saginaw Valley State at 1 p.m. in University Center, Michigan.

The Lakers' next home action is on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Wayne State in a conference matchup in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
