Women's Basketball Defeats Purdue Northwest 63-59

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball defeated Purdue Northwest 63-59 for its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season on Saturday in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Purdue Northwest (2-14, 0-10 GLIAC) went ahead 17-13 in the first quarter but were outscored by Lake Superior State (6-11, 1-9 GLIAC) 18-16 in the second frame, making it a 35-29 lead for the Pride at the half. In the third quarter, the Lakers added 20 points compared to Purdue Northwest's 13, giving the Lakers a one-point lead at 49-48 with one quarter to go. The Lakers outscored the Pride 14-11 in the fourth quarter, bringing the final to 63-59.

Junior forward Lexie Khon led the Lakers in points with 20 and rebounds with nine. Redshirt sophomore forward Abigail Ostman had the next-best with seven rebounds, while junior guard Claire Radtke and redshirt freshman Sadie DeWildt guard were next up in points with 13 and 14, respectively. Radtke led in assists with six.

The Lakers were 11-of-15 from the free throw line, and the Pride were 19-of-26.

Lake State made 31.0 percent of their shots from the field and 26.7 percent of their three-pointers. Purdue Northwest shot 40.4 percent overall and shot 20.0 percent on three-point shots.

The Lakers hit the road next weekend to face Ferris State on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in a conference matchup.

Lake Superior State spends the following weekend in action on the road before returning home Thursday, Feb. 7 against Wayne State and Saturday, Feb. 9 against Ashland.
